John West Australia & WWF Sustainable Seafood PartnershipAt John West, we are passionate about our oceans which is why we are proud to announce our partnership with the world’s largest conservation organisation, WWF. This partnership commits John West Australia to WWF’s – Global Sustainable Seafood Charter and features key milestones along the way for us to meet throughout our journey to sustainability - including a commitment that all John West Australia products will be sustainable by 2015. John West has engaged WWF for scientific advice and guidance on the sustainability of our seafood products. John West will be working with our seafood suppliers and experts from WWF to ensure the future availability of sustainable seafood. WWF will use a set of criteria for assessing the sustainability of seafood, that considers biology, status, interactions and management.
This Charter jointly commits John West and WWF to:- Contribute to a future in which sustainable fisheries thrive in healthy ecosystems, benefiting people, business and species that depend on them.
- Work together towards sustainable fisheries management and aquaculture production.
- Safeguard valuable marine ecosystems, ensuring the long-term viability of seafood supply that we all depend on.

Dolphin FriendlyJohn West is committed to ensuring the fishing methods used to catch our tuna abide by international standards to minimise the impact to the marine environment and this includes Dolphin friendly practices. Standards for dolphin safe practices were developed by the Earth Island Institute in the early 1970’s. The Earth Island Institute is an independent non-government organisation based in the USA that monitors fishing practices worldwide. In order for your product to bear the ‘Dolphin Friendly’ symbol, the fishing vessels that catch your tuna must be certified by the Earth Island Institute.
