We believe our customers are entitled to have facts about food choices readily available, allowing them to make informed and responsible seafood choices. That’s why we have updated all labeling across our canned tuna range to not only include nutritional information, but also to ensure customers know which species they’re choosing, where it comes from, and how it was caught.
- In addition to detail on species, catch method and catch area, John West labels also include:
- From May 2015, John West launched a new traceability site called 'Trace Your Fish' where you can follow the journey of your John West seafood from catch to can.
- From December 2015, John West Tuna now carries the MSC ecolabel - the world's best standard in sustainability. The MSC ecolabel ensures your tuna has been wild caught and comes from a fishery that has been independently certified to the MSC’s standard for a well-managed and sustainable fishery helping to ensure we have healthy oceans forever.
- All of our products are ‘Dolphin Friendly’ in line with the standards for dolphin safe practices developed by the Earth Island Institute in the early 1970s. In order for products to bear the ‘Dolphin Friendly’ line, tuna fishing vessels must be certified by the Institute.
